Hot on the heels of Morningstar DBRS’ rather buoyant and upbeat structured finance outlook event, we were delighted to be joined on the pod this week by Mudasar Chaudhry, head of European structured finance research at the rating agency.
Our reporters George Smith and Tom Hall began by having Mudasar discuss the resilience of, and constructive outlook on, great swathes of the asset class — though of course headlines coming from the west side of the Atlantic bring an inevitable sense of the unknown.
One area where it’s still hard to be positive, though, is the office sector. George himself is not helping matters, tuning in to this Another Fine Mezz from his desk at home (those listeners in the City of London don’t need to walk too far from some classic drinking holes to find him though).
You wouldn’t know it from his assured tone on air, but Tom has in fact only been with us at GlobalCapital just over a month. No surprise, then, that he couldn’t his hide his excitement about new and esoteric asset classes on the horizon, which was the perfect excuse to ask for more of Mudasar’s thoughts.
At the time of recording, the market was looking at a diverse trio of UK RMBS trades that we subsequently wrote up here, and we were also getting interested in the continued run of first-time issuers thanks to Leasecom.
