The public securitization market has struggled to regain its pre-crisis stature in Italy. In that sense it is not alone in Europe. But bankers and government officials regard it as crucial funding and capital management tool for Italian banks and businesses meaning it stands a better chance of returning to health than in many other European jurisdictions.
