Total Securitization held the fourth annual U.S. Securitization Awards April 17th at the Ritz-Carlton in New York. About 150 professionals attended the ceremony which, on the heels of an exceptionally difficult 2007, was less boisterous than previous years. Jason Kravitt, partner at Mayer Brown, gave the attendees a sobering history lesson in his keynote address, but offered a twist on the quip by former U.K. prime minister Benjamin Disraeli, saying while the events of last year in the ABS market were a catastrophe, they did not have to turn into a tragedy. Indeed, the tone of the remarks delivered by the award winners was largely one of the industry banding together and working to bring a better securitization market out of the current woes.
