  • A recent proposal for a single European agency to issue bonds on behalf of Emu member states was this week dismissed by market participants as premature at best and probably unworkable.   • ARRANGERS of the £4.3bn senior debt facility for Air Liquide will close the senior co-arranging level on Tuesday, after raising £10.5bn from the market. The two lead banks - Banque Nationale de Paris and Crédit Agricole Indosuez - were always confident that interest would be strong. But 21 acceptances out of 23, when 15 was considered ambitious, means that banks will be scaled back to under £200m.
  • China Co-ordinating arranger BA Asia has completed the underwriting group for the $200m 364 day financing for Cofco Capital Corp.
  • Australia Arranger Bayerische Hypo-und Vereinsbank (Singapore) has launched a A$146m TLC facility for TAHL Hotel Finance. Bayerische Hypo, SG Australia, St George Bank and AAPC Holdings have fully underwritten the facility.
  • THE BLOWOUT Eu300m eight year facility for Jazztel, the Spanish telecoms company, has closed oversubscribed. The keen response to the deal brought in over Eu400m, Eu250m of which came from general syndication. The borrower is more likely to opt for a scaling back of participation levels, than for an increase in the total.
  • Argentina Aeropuertos 2000 is seeking bids for a $600m facility which will be split between an export credit and a term loan.
  • ERICSSON launched its $1bn facility yesterday (Thursday) via arranger Citibank to a positive reception among potential lenders. Although some banks were keen to see a 364 day tranche, this is a single tranche deal of five years. The deal will not be underwritten and relies on the support of relationship banks. Ericsson has a reputation for managing its relationships carefully and likes to keep tight control over the extent of syndication.

  • ELF Aquitaine's Eu18bn committed facility backing its counter bid for Totalfina could break European records next week when allocations are completed on Monday. Bankers say almost 30 banks had committed Eu1bn each by yesterday evening (Thursday) and that by close of play today (Friday) as many as 40 banks will have committed to the deal.
