Asiamoney Brokers Poll 2009: results revealed

In the largest brokers poll yet conducted by ASIAMONEY, CLSA has once again taken the crown for its regional research and sales. Macquarie comes first in Australia, and Nomura leads the rankings in Japan.

Asiamoney is pleased to announce the winners of its 20th annual Brokers Poll, the region’s pre-eminent industry survey. More than 2,300 investors from approximately 1,300 different institutions contributed this year, making it by far our largest poll to date. The participating institutions represent an estimated total of US$1.65 trillion in Asian equity funds under management.

Despite a markedly volatile year for Asia's equity markets, this broad investor audience continued to be most impressed by the region's established players. CLSA retains its number one ranking in the overall combined regional research and sales category for Asia (ex-Australia & Japan) this year. UBS, Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan maintain their hold on second, third and fourth positions respectively, while Credit Suisse rises from sixth in 2008 to fifth this year.

In Australia, Macquarie continues to dominate the market, topping combined research and sales once again as well as being voted the best local brokerage. UBS takes second spot and Goldman Sachs JBWere moves up to third. In Japan, local brokerage winner Nomura leads the overall combined research and sales, while CLSA and UBS take second and third places, respectively, both improvements on their respective positions last year.
