Over a whiskey last week, this investor was telling me about his firm's latest newbie, fresh from London, and how his team welcomed him with an open tab.
Being a greenhorn in Hong Kong is tough going, as this fresh-faced guy found out. Within an hour of landing, he just had time to drop his bags in his apartment before my mate and his colleagues took him down to Lan Kwai Fong to neck handfuls of shots.
Before he knew it, the night had turned into morning, and this fellow was forced to go in for his first day at his desk with no sleep and a rumpled suit. But what he did not know was that his new firm was very much prepared for cases like him.
When his colleagues gave him a tour of the office, he saw to his delight that there were not only bathrooms for sprucing up (stocked with shaving kits for the men) but also a wardrobe filled with clean, pressed shirts of different sizes, along with an array of fresh ties.
Now there is a company that really knows how the industry works and what its staff need. Bring on more late nights out!
