GlobalCapital’s Covered Bond Awards 2019 took place this year in at the BMW Welt on Thursday September 12. The awards reflected a poll in which almost 500 people fully completing the survey including the some of largest investors, most frequent issuers and the lead manager community.
In recognition of its 250th anniversary the Editor’s Choice was awarded to the Pfandbrief market. Many key issuers, market makers, as well as the Association of German Pfandbrief Banks (VDP) came up on to the stage to accept this award. LBBW squarely won the award for Best Euro Lead Manager with issuers, lead managers and investors voting for the bank. Covered Bond House of the Year went to HSBC, thanks to a strong endorsement from issuers and lead managers.
Amid stiff competition from UniCredit and Credit Agricole, UBS walked away with the prize for Best Syndicate Manager. The Best Bank for Niche Currencies was won by Toronto Dominion, which also won best dollar deal. DZ Bank narrowly won the award for Best Bank for Distribution, just pipping BNP Paribas to the post. Among the deal awards, SMBC walked away with Best Debut Deal, after issuing the first covered bond from Japan and hopefully one of many to come.
