Global Derivatives Awards 2018: the winners

GlobalCapital is delighted to announce the winners of its 2018 Global derivatives awards, which were unveiled at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower in London on Tuesday September 25.

Attendees were in high spirits at the event enjoying first the champagne reception and then the awards presentation and dinner.

The awards celebrate the innovators and advocates of the derivatives industry who have achieved excellence in their fields over the last 12 months.

JP Morgan won the top banking award as Derivatives House of the Year. The US bank also picked up the Equity and FX Derivatives House of the Year awards, as it bore the fruits of investment  in technology.

Linklaters was named overall Law Firm of the Year. The company has been at the heart of the derivatives industry’s efforts to move away from Libor and built up its global presence to offer deep local expertise in each of the markets it operates in.

Amid the uncertainty of Brexit LCH has not let political noise distract it from innovation and cementing dominant market share. Not only has the clearing house held firm its dominance of the interest rate swap market, it has also, after nine years of effort, pushed an FX options clearing service over the line.

Other stories of exciting innovations and progress for the industry abounded throughout the nominee list. The derivatives industry has undergone another year of tough new regulations. But market participants have come through that stronger and seem well prepared for the coming 12 months.

In June, GlobalCapital began to meet nominees and hear their pitches for each category in the awards list. After six weeks of meetings, we then sounded out our preliminary decisions with some market participants before then finalising the winners at an editorial panel.

As ever, we sought to recognise the firms that went the extra mile for their clients, advocating for the progress of the industry and innovated for more efficient markets.

We considered products and services, technological innovation, flexible strategies, commitment to new markets and geographies, measures to improve efficiency and liquidity, initiatives to improve market stability and oversight and client guidance and advocacy.

Our congratulations to the winners and runners-up.
