Footballs were dotted around Commerzbank’s summer reception on Wednesday night.
Michael Reuther, Commerzbank’s corporates and markets chief, kicked off the drinks event by impressing the crowd with his keepy-uppy skills. He did so because he is German, and he regarded his ability in this area as proof of his nationality. But Reuther also said he thinks France will win this time, which the Ranger though was both treasonous and improbable!
Deutsche Bank’s Simon Derrick told the Ranger he had turned down tickets to games in France to watch his son play in a football tournament. He said it was a greater emotional investment in his son’s football exploits, and not just the higher quality of football, which had swayed his decision.
Dave Cleary is also heading out to the Euro 2016, but had to give up some of the tickets he won in the ballot because of other commitments back in the UK. The Ranger did not check whether this was also for the sporting endeavours of talented offspring.
Jonathan Pughe pondered the possibility of a road trip to watch the footy in France, but has instead opted to watch test cricket this summer from the comfort of home.
Meanwhile Peter Hursthouse engaged in another variety of sport altogether. The Rabo banker was shooting clay pigeons in the English countryside on a sunny Friday afternoon. It's alright for some!
