Weak Russian beer not getting any better

A shocking email for anyone planning a work jolly to Moscow landed in the Blog inbox last week, revealing: “Russian beer weakness to continue.”

Was this the latest victim of escalating tensions between Russia and the West? Surely there would be no watering down of the legendary Emelisse XXV Imperial Russian Stout — with 25% ABV —  or any other of the brawniest Russian beers? And if it was happening to the beer, what about the vodka? WHAT ABOUT THE VODKA?

Thankfully, after a stiff shot of whatever we could find in the secret Blog booze cupboard and a re-read of the email, it turned out the only casualty in this case was the English language. It was in fact a Fitch report saying: “Carlsberg Results Show Russian Beer Weakness to Continue”.

Blog doesn’t write analyst reports, but if we did, we’d probably be a bit less ambiguous.
