Some time ago, UBS filmed a recruitment video to draw new talent to the levfin team. We think it worked. And how could it not? Judge this strangely hypnotic creation for yourselves.
The short film struggles to accurately, and enthusiastically, depict a job in finance through the medium of images.
After all, such work necessarily involves sitting for many hours in front of multiple screens covered in numbers. (Watching a person sitting at a desk and typing has never been thrilling, despite repeated attempts from Hollywood to convince us that the sedentary life of the hacker is replete with excitement, action and danger well beyond repetitive stress injury and lumbar strain.)
As a result, UBS shot one of its bankers riding escalators – not necessarily a more exciting activity than computer gazing, but at least it involves some degree of motion – and roaming the streets at night buying things – a not-so-subtle hint at how much prospective applicants can hope to make in the job. And, bearing in mind recent returns, that one argument is more convincing than ever.
