However painful and irrational the bond market’s treatment of Italy has been at times in the past five years, the country’s top 100 companies — and more — are flocking to it. Markets may be turbulent and the price sometimes high, but investors have usually been happy to supply capital — often with astonishing eagerness. As Jon Hay reports, solving the funding and structural problems of Italy’s sub-scale medium sized firms may be a tougher challenge.
