Bruce Mendelsohn will replace William Archer as Goldman Sachs' chief underwriting officer for North America, a market source said. Archer left Goldman Wednesday to join Barclays Capital, as was reported on Credit Investment News' Web site last night. Mendelsohn, who was head of the bank debt portfolio group, will retain that role as well as taking on Archer's former role. It is believed Mendelsohn will assume the new role immediately. A Goldman Sachs spokesman declined comment.
It is not immediately clear what Archer's new role will be at Barclays, though he is thought to hold a similar position as he did at Goldman. He could not be reached for comment. A Barclays Capital spokeswoman could not immediately comment.
Archer joined Goldman in 2002. Before that he worked at Deutsche Bank as co-global head of non-investment grade debt underwriting.
