Last week the Loan Market Association celebrated its 20th year with a bash at the Guildhall and the release of a book charting its two decades of existence. In celebration of the market body’s birthday, the Ranger noted some choice quotes from the market about the LMA.
It really is the “authoritative voice of the loan market” noted one head of loans at a Middle Eastern bank.
“The loan market really is a broad church and the mechanics and instruments of the loan market have changed vastly in the last 20 years,” said one prominent former loans head.
The same banker was brimming with enthusiasm for the growth of the LMA’s footprint: “I am delighted to see that the LMA has picked up on Schuldscheine, Euro PP and ECA financing.”
Though — like the rise of a better looking younger sibling — the loan market may have been outshone by the German private Schuldscheine this year, which has been the subject of much interest and will see its highest ever volumes, while syndicated loan figures have slipped.
But for the Ranger, no matter how glamorous Schuldscheine may seem, we still have a place in our hearts for the dear loan.
