SocGen’s lev fin whizz Tanneguy De Carne was handed a £2,500 fine last week for cycling through London recklessly.
De Carne admitted the offenses and apologised in court, though the story has had much coverage in the UK press because of its juicy news mix of London traffic, lawbreaking and an investment banker.
Though the Ranger would never condone reckless cycling, or the wearing of excessive lycra, what the media coveregae failed to mention was that De Carne has always been generous with journalists and regularly cycles for charity, covering some 700km in five days this summer to raise money.
Meanwhile, in the spirit of Halloween where we remember the departed, this week’s episode is also a tribute to the Loan Ranger's colleague who has recently left GlobalCapital for a new adventure. We will all miss dear Silver, who was a trusty and upbeat companion but has left to trot along on his own path.
He was perhaps best known for his unflappable composure in his coverage of the investment grade loans beat. In his absence, please send any IG loans queries to the loans editor: elly.whittaker@globalcapital.com.
We will leave you with a question to ponder: is this the bona fide Twitter page of South African finance minister Pravin Gordhan, or a charlatan?!: https://twitter.com/pravingordhan
