A friend of the Ranger broke both her arms at a wedding last weekend by dancing too enthusiastically and falling hard on a concrete floor.
On telling the unfortunate tale to one of Citi’s loans bankers, it turns out that the Ranger’s dear friend was not the only one to have been at risk on the dancefloor.
Dymitr Fedenczak said that it was common at weddings he had attended for someone to be sent home with injuries. He once had to ask someone to put his wife down, for fear of he would drop her on an exuberant spin around the room.
Later in the week, the Ranger attended Citi’s press event famished after the long working day.
The Ranger saw trays of delicious canapés circling the room and grabbed a passing chicken pie — no mean feat in itself, but eating it proved even trickier. The Ranger tried to talk to one of Citi’s private banking team but showered the unfortunate banker with crumbs with every word.
While chatting with Citi’s Richard Basham, the Ranger attempted a steaming bowl of gnocchi which, it turns out, is also a hard meal to attempt under duress.
Basham, clearly a connoisseur of drinks parties, kept his composure by avoiding awkward snacks altogether.
The Ranger’s beloved leader and former loans market reporter Toby Fildes, GlobalCapital's managing editor, was off to Frankfurt last week to chair the panel discussion at Commerzbank’s loan market celebration day. We hope that no one returns from the event with any battle scars!
